How many pet-related puns can we jam into one ad?? Guess you'll have to scroll to find out if we're fur real.
How many pet-related puns can we jam into one ad?? Guess you'll have to scroll to find out if we're fur real.
Check out some of our favorite words from our writers in the month of July -- and the thinking behind why they worked, not just the fact that they did.
E-Commerce: Puppy Pee Pads
Puppies are cute. Pee and poop are not cute.
So how do you sell something gross as something adorable? You never mention the mess directly -- you let the puns carry the ugly part of the job. "Pupperific" language does the heavy lifting: it keeps the tone light and playful so the reader's brain stays on the puppy, not the puddle. That's the same instinct that goes into any headline that earns the read -- lead with what the reader wants to feel, not with the thing they're trying to avoid.
Pupperific puns!
The client loved the final ad and let us know -- "This gave me a laugh ๐คฃ Thank you very much!"
Digital Services: Online Game
Did you know we not only write copy, we also provide semi-custom images, videos, and photography? This client requested an ad + image, but didn't "have anything specific in mind -- would just like it to be eye-catching/scroll stopping. Something clever/funny related to politics or war would be awesome."
When a brief is this open-ended, the job isn't to guess at what's clever -- it's to pick one sharp angle and commit to it so the image and the copy are pulling the exact same joke instead of two different ones. That's what actually stops the scroll.
Email Sequence: Golf Club Referral Program
This golf club was ready to nurture some love in the email list they recently built. Their request was an email that would get members and past golfers to join their referral program and get rewarded in the process. We built the ask around the reward, not the referral itself -- members don't share a program because you asked nicely, they share it because the payoff for their own game (or their wallet) is spelled out in the first two lines. The result? A review from the client that made us grin -- "This is perfect! Thank you!!!"
Frequently Asked Questions
Nope, they don't just write copy. Ad Zombies also provides semi-custom images, videos, and photography to accompany their ads. One client in July requested both an ad and image for an online game, proving they're a one-stop creative shop.
Based on the July examples, they go heavy on humor and puns โ like "pupperific puns" for puppy pee pads and clever/funny angles for political or war-themed gaming ads. The clients clearly dig it, responding with laughing emojis and "This is perfect!" reviews.
They work across the board. In July alone, they wrote for e-commerce products (puppy pee pads), digital services (online games), and membership-based businesses (golf club referral programs). Pretty much if you need direct-response copy, they'll take a swing at it.
They lean into humor and wordplay to make the unsexy stuff fun. Case in point: selling puppy pee pads (for pee and poop, which "are not cute") by loading the ad with pupperific puns. The strategy works โ clients love it.
