3 FREE Tools That Make Writing WAY Easier

3 FREE Tools That Make Writing WAY Easier

February 16, 20222 min read

Let’s face it—writing is hard. Sometimes even for professional copywriters like us! You know what makes it easier? Wine.🍷

Well, that and a few online tools ANYONE can use to help them write gooder! We mean better. 😉

The best part? All three tools are F-R-E-E!

So go on, pour yourself a glass of red, pop open your laptop, and check out these tools. Your writing will flow as smooth and silky as that Cab you just uncorked...

  1. Grammarly

This one is the biggest no-brainer out there. Grammarly has a free extension you can add to your browser that automatically checks for spelling errors, iffy grammar, and oddly structured sentences wherever you are writing. It even has a phone extension as well (although we find that a little annoying on the fly). Our favorite part is that you can toggle between different English dialects (Australian, British, American, Canadian, etc.) to help with different spellings (like favorite vs favourite) if you write for audiences from different countries. They also have a paid version that offers upgraded features, but the free version has everything necessary to thrive!

COMPOSE BOLD, CLEAR, MISTAKE-FREE WRITING.

2. Hemingway Editor/App

This tool is a sleeper. We tell people all the time about the Hemingway App and are surprised it’s not as popular as Grammarly! Hemingway App helps you combat long, run-on sentences, offers suggestions for shorter, less complex words, and highlights sentences or words that convey a passive voice. You write directly on the website and can choose to turn off the editing suggestions until you are ready (toggle between Write and Edit). The paid version is a desktop app, but the online version is completely free. Our favorite feature is that it tells you your “readability score” AKA what Grade Level your writing is. We like to keep it below 5th grade to ensure it’s clear and concise!

3. Natural Readers

This is for the writers out there. While Grammarly and Hemingway App are great for everyone who writes, Natural Readers is a MUST for professional writers (in-house, contract, freelancer, content creators, or otherwise). Sometimes we get so caught up in our own writing that we miss blatant errors—and we don’t always have someone to review it for us. Natural Readers is a professional text-to-speech program that reads your copy back to you. Easily catch cadence issues, spelling errors, and punctuation mistakes by listening to someone else read your writing out loud. You can add it as a browser extension or use it directly on the website. Upgrades are available for premium voices and commercial uses.

NATURAL READER IS A PROFESSIONAL TEXT TO SPEECH PROGRAM

The truth is... being a professional copywriter isn’t for everyone—but you can’t hire professional writers to draft every email, conversation, or text you send. Leveraging free tools like the above can help every CEO, marketer, or intern write with confidence, no matter their industry. For all your other writing needs, there’s Ad Zombies. 😉
